Pat Vaughn with Dr. Ruth McKeefery, first Executive Director, and Rev. Bill Barnes, Founder of Shepherd’s Hope. |
Pat Vaughn was presented the 2005 Dr. Ruth M. McKeefery Volunteer of the Year Award at the Call to Hope Luncheon, on March 23, 2006.
Pat was recognized for the significant impact he has had in every aspect of Shepherd’s Hope. Since the organization was founded in 1997, Pat has served as Board Chairman, Development Director, Eligibility Specialist, Grant Writer, Volunteer Recruiter and, perhaps most importantly, patient advocate. He works directly with patients and serves tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that medical care is available to any one who comes through the doors. He has raised over one million dollars for the organization through grant writing and fund raising initiatives, recruited urgently needed physician volunteers, screened and interviewed countless patients, and provided leadership to the Board of Directors.
The award is named in honor of Dr. Ruth McKeefery, who was the first executive director of Shepherd’s Hope. For four years, Dr. McKeefery donated her time and expertise to establish the organization, and she laid a strong foundation on which Shepherd’s Hope has thrived.
Since its founding in 1997, volunteer doctors, nurses, other health care professionals and general volunteers have served over 50,000 patient visits.
Outstanding volunteers were honored at each of the health centers.
